SKINCARE ON THE GO: 3 QUICK TIPS April 10 2023

By Hinda Lahmar and Mila Millano

Some days we don’t feel like putting too much effort into anything, or we are short on time. Instead of skipping something as essential as your skincare routine, you can simplify it.

Here are 3 tips for an easy and efficient skincare routine when you are in a hurry.

Keep your body hydrated

This process starts as soon as we wake up. After a night of sleep, our body is dehydrated and needs to replenish its water reserves. Lemon water with a small pinch of Himalayan salt will not only hydrate your body, but it will also restore its electrolyte levels. In addition to that, drinking enough water during the day and according to the season is essential. This quantity is different depending on your weight, lifestyle, and gender. But most people will suffice with 1.5 to 2 liters a day. That is 6-8 glasses of water. Easy, right? If you start your day with a glass of water, you’ll only have 5 left to feel fully hydrated and healthy.
And remember hydrated body equals hydrated skin!

Avoid junk food

Highly-processed foods and drinks contain too much salt, sugar, and fat. They require your organs to utilize a significant amount of water as they process it, causing you to become dehydrated without you realizing it. And that will inevitably affect the appearance of your skin.

Here are the top 5 foods and beverages that lead to dehydration:

+ sugary drinks (coca cola, iced tea, etc.)
Healthier alternative: 100% fruit juice

+ Fried foods - They are not only high in cholesterol and fat but also contain large amounts of salt. Salt causes your body to dehydrate because it requires large amounts of water to process.
How to avoid fried foods: Plan your daily healthy meals on a full stomach. When you do that, you will not look for instant fast foods.

+ Cured meats
Cured meats and popcorn are loaded with salt and sugar. That will suck the water out of your body and leave you dehydrated.
Healthier alternative: Eliminate cured meats from your diet, and stick to lean, grass-fed meat or fish instead.

+ Salty snacks (potato chips, popcorn, or pretzels) contain way too much sodium.
Healthy alternative: roast some nuts, cut fresh veggies + hummus to snack on, or pop your corn and be careful with the salt.

+ alcohol and caffeine drinks
Both alcohol and caffeine drinks are natural diuretics and cause your body to squeeze out water from your cells. Although it might be tempting to enjoy a few beers outside on a hot summer day, combined with sweating will dehydrate you even faster. To avoid getting dehydrated, be sure to sip on water in between alcoholic/caffeine drinks.

Quick skincare routine

A skincare routine doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.

When in a hurry, follow these steps for glowing skin:

1. Double-cleanse your skin. Start with a gentle oil cleanser that breaks down buildup leaving you with a soft, supple feeling. Best when you have dry, uneven skin. Then wash your face with a gentle cleanser for 30 seconds to 1 minute. A natural cleanser will not strip your skin of its natural oils. You can find a range of natural and gentle cleansers that would be great for your skin if you follow this link: Neven (neven-body-care.com)

2. Nourish your skin. Use the right facial oil that targets your skin's needs. Our serums at Neven are rich in vitamins and plant actives. They will keep your skin hydrated and well nourished, as well as give it the extra vitamin boost it needs to feel fresh. Our facial oils will do such a good job that you can leave the hydrating cream for another day. You can find our serums here: Neven (neven-body-care.com)

3. Protect your skin from the sun. Finish by applying a mineral-based sunscreen. These types of UV blockers are not only safer for your health but also protect our environment from harmful chemicals. Keep in mind to choose non-nano Zinc oxide and Titanium oxide creams.

Just like that, only 5 minutes in the bathroom, and you are already glowing and ready to leave.
